The Living Legacy
My journey into herbalism began long before I had the words to name it. As a child, I was raised with a deep respect for natural, holistic healing with a quiet wisdom passed down from my grandmother, Mabel, to my mother, and then to me. Though I carried those beliefs with me, it would take years before I truly understood how to weave them into my own life.

Early in my journey, everything shifted after being diagnosed with a chronic disease, a condition deeply rooted in my family history. I found myself overwhelmed and discouraged, especially by the side effects of conventional medications. I knew there had to be another way. That’s when I began to return to what I had always known. I remembered my grandmother’s remedies. Simple, plant-based, and deeply intuitive, I felt called to explore them more deeply.
What started as a search for healing quickly became something more. As I immersed myself in the study of herbs and plant medicine, I uncovered a rich world of knowledge that had been quietly waiting in these time-honored traditions. With every step, I felt a growing sense of connection to the plants, to my lineage, and to a more intentional way of living.
Herbalism became not just a practice, but a calling.
Through Mabel’s Apothecary, I honor the legacy of the women who came before me. Rooted in my grandmother’s gentle wisdom and my mother’s steadfast belief in natural healing, my work is devoted to helping others reconnect with the power of the earth. I believe in a path to wellness that is both nurturing and empowering. One that supports the body, honors the spirit, and invites us back into harmony with the natural world.
Honoring the Roots
The Inspiration

Mabel, my grandmother, was born in 1904 in York County, Nebraska. At just sixteen years old, she

stepped into a one-room schoolhouse as a teacher, beginning a lifelong devotion to teaching that continued well into the late 1960s, and truly never ended. Education was not simply her profession; it was part of who she was. Whether seated at the dining room table practicing our handwriting, working through English lessons, or sharing stories about paleontology, herbology, and botany, she delighted in nurturing curiosity and inspiring others to see the wonder in the world around them.

She was also a devoted wife to my grandfather, Leo, a lifelong farmer whose quiet strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to the land perfectly complemented Mabel's inquisitive nature. Together they built a life rooted in hard work, kindness, and an abiding respect for the rhythms of the natural world. Their home was a place of comfort, learning, and simple joys, where every visitor felt welcomed, and every growing thing seemed to flourish.

Mabel possessed what many would call a green thumb, though to those who knew her, it felt more like a magical gift. Her home overflowed with thriving plants, and I still remember watching her gently pinch a leaf from a favorite plant, place it into fresh soil, and patiently tend it until new life emerged. She taught me that nurturing something, whether a child, a student, a plant, or a dream, required little more than knowledge, patience, and love.

She lived a long and beautiful life, remaining a source of wisdom, encouragement, and gentle guidance until just shy of her ninety-third birthday. By the time she passed, she had left behind far more than memories. She left a legacy of education, a reverence for nature, and a profound understanding that love is most often expressed through teaching, tending, and caring for others. Her influence continues to shape my work every day, and Mabel's Apothecary stands as a tribute to the lessons she shared so freely. A reminder that the smallest acts of nurturing can leave roots that endure for generations.
The Motivation

My mother, Mary, born in 1941, was a farmer's daughter whose life was defined by love, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others. A gifted seamstress, she spent much of her life creating beauty with her hands, but her greatest creations were the relationships she nurtured and the wisdom she passed on to those fortunate enough to know her.

In 1997, she and my father retired to the Ozark Mountains, where she embraced a quieter life rooted in family, nature, and simple joys. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who believed wholeheartedly that true wellness could not be separated into compartments. To her, health was not merely the absence of illness, but a state of balance that encompassed the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. She trusted that nature provided much of what we needed to thrive, and she taught us that healing often begins by slowing down, stepping outside, listening to our bodies, and paying attention to the subtle rhythms of the world around us.
She instilled in her children and grandchildren a reverence for the natural world and a belief that movement, fresh air, meaningful work, and time spent among growing things nourished the whole

person. Whether tending a garden, taking a walk beneath the trees, preparing wholesome meals, or simply sitting quietly and observing the birds at a feeder, she understood that these small acts connected us to something greater than ourselves. She believed that caring for our own well-being was important, but that our purpose extended beyond self-care. We were called to care for others, to share what we had learned, and to leave the world gentler than we found it.
Teaching was woven into her very being. Like her mother before her, she delighted in passing knowledge to the next generation. She taught with patience and humility, never seeking recognition, but finding joy in watching others grow. She encouraged curiosity, fostered compassion, and reminded us that wisdom carries little value if it is not shared freely. Through stories, traditions, and quiet moments of guidance, she passed down the lessons bestowed upon her and ensured they would continue to live on through her children and grandchildren.

A three-time cancer survivor, she never lost faith in the body's capacity to heal and adapt when supported with nourishment, rest, and natural remedies. In her later years, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and came to live with my family, where we cared for her until her passing in 2023. During that time, I often turned to herbs, nutritional support, and gentle natural practices in hopes of easing her journey and bringing comfort where I could.
Even as Alzheimer's gradually stole memories and words, it could not diminish the essence of who she was. Until the very end, she continued to teach those around her. Through her vulnerability, she demonstrated extraordinary resilience. Through her dependence on others, she showed us the beauty of compassion. Through her struggles, she revealed the

power of empathy. And through it all, she embodied a selfless love that asked for nothing in return.
The greatest gift she left behind was not simply a belief in holistic health, but a way of living, one rooted in kindness, service, and the understanding that our lives are enriched when we use our knowledge, our hands, and our hearts to uplift others. Her legacy is a torch that now burns brightly within Mabel's Apothecary, reminding me each day that healing is not only about restoring ourselves, but also about extending care, wisdom, and love to everyone whose path we are privileged to cross.

Everything in nature carries purpose; every plant, every element, and every living system is woven into the fabric of our existence. At Mabel's Apothecary, I believe in returning to a more holistic way of living that honors the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit. In a world increasingly shaped by speed, convenience, and synthetic solutions, I believe it is more important than ever to reconnect with the natural remedies and traditions that have supported humanity for generations.
My own journey toward herbalism began while searching for answers to my personal health challenges beyond conventional approaches. In that search, I found myself returning to the wisdom lovingly passed down by my grandmother, Mabel, and the holistic values instilled in me by my mother. As I immersed myself in the study of traditional herbalism, I discovered more than information. I discovered purpose. I realized that I was not alone. Countless others are seeking gentle, natural ways to restore balance and cultivate wellness in their bodies, minds, and spirits.
From that calling, Mabel's Apothecary was born.
Each product I create is thoughtfully handcrafted, with intention, using organic, ethically sourced herbs and plant materials selected for their quality, integrity, and sustainability. Every formulation is inspired by traditional herbal knowledge and supported by modern scientific research whenever available, allowing me to offer products that are both meaningful and responsibly crafted.
I believe in keeping things simple and honest. You will never find artificial fragrances, flavors, dyes, or unnecessary preservatives in my products, only whole, purposeful ingredients chosen to support the body with respect and care. Every blend is shared with members of my local community for feedback and refinement, helping ensure that what reaches your hands is something I would confidently place into the hands of my own family.
Mabel's Apothecary is more than a collection of herbal products. It is a living legacy, rooted in my grandmother's quiet wisdom with plants, my grandfather Leo's gentle stewardship of the land, and my mother's unwavering faith in nature's ability to nourish, comfort, and restore. Though they are no longer here in body, their teachings, values, and love remain deeply woven into every aspect of this work.
Their Legacy Lives On.
Mabel taught me to wonder, to learn, and to nurture the living world around me. My mother taught me to listen to nature, to our bodies, and to the quiet needs of those we love. Together, they showed me that healing is not merely the treatment of illness, but an act of compassion, stewardship, and service.
Mabel's Apothecary exists because of them. Every herb I harvest, every blend I formulate, every class I teach, every blog I post, and every person I serve is a continuation of the legacy they entrusted to me. The mission is simple: to help others rediscover the wisdom of the earth, embrace a more grounded and intentional way of caring for themselves, and foster a deeper relationship with the plants, traditions, and communities that sustain us.
Through education, connection, and thoughtfully crafted herbal offerings, I hope to empower others to reconnect with their bodies, honor their spirits, and carry forward their own traditions of care, knowledge, and love.
